Course Descriptions

Accident Investigation

Learners meet various team members involved in an accident investigation then learn the who, what, and where of the process. A balanced mix of media is used to educate the participant on investigation methods, the right and wrong way to interview witnesses, and the elements of the report. Use of a A Real World Scenario, places the learner at the scene of an accident as a trained investigator and actively reviews available evidence to determine what caused the accident.

Accident Prevention

This program helps minimize the likelihood of workplace accidents by allowing learners to safely experience the consequences of inattention and irresponsible behavior through video, animation, and engaging interaction. An animated character named "Woody" is directed by the learner toward a variety of hazards and then witnesses the perils he experiences. A "Click to Learn More" interaction illustrates what can happen if machinery is operated incorrectly and/or not properly maintained. Prior to the Mastery Test, the interactive video places the learner in a "Real World Scenario" with the challenge to assist the plant manager in identification of potential production and office area hazards.

Asbestos Awareness

This program not only addresses asbestos-related hazards but also makes the learning relevant. Throughout the course the viewer sees a strategic mix of video, graphic animation, and photos that illustrate course concepts. "Click to Learn More" opportunities invite learners to investigate health effects of exposure, ways to reduce exposure, and precisely what to do when asbestos is discovered in the workplace. By placing the participant in the "Real World Scenario," the worker decides if it's safe to enter a steam tunnel, and, if so, how to avoid any potential asbestos hazard within.

Bloodborne Pathogens

Initial questions identify whether the learner is a general worker or someone whose duties include responding to emergencies. The course is tracked accordingly. Learners retrieve detailed information about the sections of an exposure control plan through a "Click to Learn More" activity. Extensive use of photos, graphic animation, and simple terminology help convey the concepts and diseases related to blood and what workers can do to protect themselves.

Confined Space Entry

Employees learn how to identify and control hazards encountered in confined spaces, how to use proper safety equipment, the responsibilities of each team member, and the value of an entry permit. Animated sequences depict potential physical, flammability, and toxic hazards that may be found in confined spaces. Learners witness the effects of oxygen and carbon monoxide levels in the atmosphere and "perform" an atmospheric test. In our "Real World Scenario", our interactive video shows "Steve and Jeff" as they attempt to clean resin out of a tank. Learners apply what they know and subsequent video segments depict the consequences of their responses.

Electrical Safety

This program instructs non-electrical workers about electrical hazards in the workplace. Exercises incorporate video, animation graphics, and text to allow students to experiment with electricity and safely learn from their mistakes. Workers learn about resistance by "plugging" different types of resistant materials into an electric circuit and witnessing the results. Our animated character "Woody" is affected by shock as the student manipulates the electric current in an amp meter. The learner judges an electric practice as safe or unsafe in a game-like exercise with special sound effects that makes the interaction fun and memorable.

Environmental Awareness

This program provides a well-rounded view of environmental hazards, the law, and the government agency that enforces it. Interaction through video, graphics, and photographs allow learners to discover the "real" cost of past mistakes like the spill of the Exxon Valdez and the deadly gas cloud at Bhopal. Dramatic video presents the harmful effects of pesticides on the environment. The complex topic of "key environmental legislation" is simplified and explored in a challenging interactive exercise that provides clues for learners to match to the correct law.

Ergonomics

Designed for any employee whose job involves performing repetitive tasks or remaining in an awkward position for a long period of time, the course offers two tracks -- one for the office worker and another for using hand tools or machinery production. Animation is used to show how an employee can break up or reduce repetitive tasks that lead to CTD. Employees who use computers are introduced to "Ergo Guy" in an interactive exercise that teaches about proper posture and workstation design. Live action video, photos and graphics further enhance the message and help maintain interest.

Fire

This program teaches employees about fire prevention principles, common causes, and the proper selection and use of extinguishers. The course is full of fun, interactive instructional exercises. Learners play a battle of wits in "Firehouse Feud" when they try to identify causes of fires in the workplace. Another interactive exercise challenges them to select the correct fire extinguisher for putting out difference types of fires. The mnemonic device -- POEM -- representing Paper, Oils, Energized electrical equipment, and Metals is used to help learners recall what type of fire each class of extinguisher fights.

Forklift Safety

This program gives employees an appreciation for the potential dangers associated with forklift operation. Throughout this highly visual course, learners witness numerous video examples of good and bad forklift operating practices. In one activity students are taught to recognize potential hazards by exploring scenes where accidents are waiting to happen. In our "Real World Scenario", learners find themselves in the driver's seat with the challenge of identifying workplace hazards before it's too late!

Hazard Communications

This program takes a detailed look at hazard communication programs, and explains how the programs work to protect the employee through education and establishment of safe operating procedures. "Click and Learn More" opportunities involve the student in the training process. In one of many interactive exercises they'll learn about Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs). Unlike the traditional linear instruction about MSDSs, this is a highly graphic, non-linear exercise where the learner controls the pace of training. Another activity enables the learner to hear real-life stories of hazardous materials incidents that occurred or where narrowly avoided.

Hazardous Waste Management

This program allows employees to learn the proper procedures for handling hazardous waste. This course is broken into tracks, each specifically tailored to the needs of the production worker, material handler, shipping personnel or supervisor. Regardless of the track, each participant experiences a variety of engaging interactions -- including rotating and inspecting a 3-D drum, hearing important questions posed to "the expert" on hazardous waste issues, and "dragging and dropping" drums into their proper storage places. The learner will also witness the dangers of mixing incompatible materials in animation complete with sound effects. Learners take part in a "Real World Scenario" where fellow workers ask them to make hazardous waste labeling, transportation, and storage recommendations.

HAZWOPER Awareness

Employees learn about the types of hazardous materials, how to detect them, and how to respond to hazardous materials emergencies. Extensive use of video, animation and interactive exercises keep learners engaged in this important subject. In addition, mnemonic devices reinforce key course concepts. "Click to Learn More" opportunities explain the steps to follow in a hazardous material emergency, the routes of exposure, and sections of the Emergency Response Guidebook.

Hearing Conservation

Employees will learn to recognize how hearing loss occurs and how to protect themselves while on the job. One interactive exercise creatively combines audio and video to teach learners about different decibel levels as they "slide" along on a dB scale. Another activity enables the participant to interact with people who have various symptoms of hearing loss. The "Real World Scenario" challenges them to determine if a hearing conservation program is needed. While participating in the interactive video, learners experience a simulated hearing test and suggest noise prevention measures to be implemented.

ISO 14000

The program provides a solid background on environmental management system concepts in general and ISO 14000 in particular. The course focuses on the issues driving the standard -- namely the need for sustainable growth and resource conservation. "Click to Learn More" exercises answer questions like: "Who represents a U.S.-based company?", "What is required of companies interested in participating?" And "What are the economic benefits of membership?" Learners even "travel through time" to find out the history of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

Laboratory Safety

"Click to Learn More" opportunities give students the chance to study the elements of a chemical hygiene plan, the routes of chemical exposure, and different types of toxins. In a game-like interaction, learners test their knowledge of safe laboratory practices. Our "Real World Scenario" places learners in the lab where they encounter several obstacles while preparing to perform an experiment. In resolving these issues, learners must decide how to handle a co-worker's adverse reaction to a chemical spill and attempt to practice proper spill clean-up procedures. The outcome of the choices they make -- which could save a life or threaten others -- is immediately revealed.

Lockout/Tagout -- Affected Employee

This program is designed for those who work in an area where lockout/tagout procedures have been performed. Workers learn how sources of energy are identified and how proper use of locks and tags significantly reduce the risk of accidents. Animation is used to illustrate the characteristics of kinetic energy. A highlight of this course is the "Real World Scenario". In this interactive video, learners guide characters through decisions on how to correctly lock and tag a machine. Ensuing video segments depict the consequences of their decisions. When learners make a bad decision, they are safe from the negative effects that can occur in the real world, yet can observe the effects suffered by the characters.

Lockout/Tagout -- Authorized Employees

This program is designed for those who perform lockout/tagout procedures. The general procedure for safely applying and removing locks and tags is illustrated on a "virtual widget" machine. Animation is used to demonstrate what happens when proper safety measures are not practiced. In our "Real World Scenario", learners guide characters through decisions on how to correctly lock and tag a machine. Results of decisions are realized immediately.

Personal Protective Equipment

This program provides a meaningful learning experience that raises employee awareness of potential hazards and addresses the issues of PPE selection, equipment limitations, and maintenance. In one interactive exercise, learners choose an area of the body susceptible to injury. After they choose a potential hazard, a composite image dressed-out in the proper PPE appears. A three dimensional, animated exercise enables learners to view a hard-hat from any angle as they perform a hard-hat inspection.

Respiratory Protection

The program covers how the human respiratory system works, the hazards that threaten it, and how using the proper respiratory equipment can eliminate the threats. This course utilizes fun, educational multimedia to instruct participants about the mechanics of respirator fit testing, inspection, and cleaning procedures. Learners travel along a graphical time line to hear more about respiratory device development. Animation is used to demonstrate how an air-purifying respirator works. A "Click to Learn More" activity enables learners to choose an airborne threat and see what color air filter provides the proper protection.

Safety Overview

In this comprehensive overview of safe work practices, students are introduced to important topics such as hazard communication, fire prevention, lockout/tagout and small spills. Through "Click and Learn More" opportunities, learners can investigate the basic components of a health and safety program, the hazards, and common types of personal protective equipment. A course highlight is "Training on a CD Jukebox" filled with eleven health and safety training titles. Learners pop in a CD and receive a multimedia presentation of the subject selected.

Small Spills

This program is designed to teach employees who work in areas where chemicals are handled on how to react properly in the event of a spill. This course offers many "Click and Learn More" opportunities. Students can investigate hazardous chemical properties, types of absorbents, and the procedures to follow when they are first to respond to a spill. A graphical interaction presents a spill scene where learners examine clues in order to uncover the spilled chemical's name and its hazardous properties. In our "Real World Scenario," learners find themselves in a warehouse where a spill has just occurred. Here they must decide how to respond to the spill, identify what, if any, personal protective equipment is required for clean-up, recommend an appropriate absorbent, and indicate if a neutralizing agent is needed.

Workplace Emergencies

This program instructs employees on proper response techniques in the event of a fire, accident, or other emergency by using interactivity at its best. Learners fight a battle of wits against the host of "Firehouse Feud" as they try to identify causes of workplace fires. In another activity learners try to select the correct extinguisher to put out the type of fire they are facing. There are many opportunities for students to "Click and Learn More" about fire prevention plans, factors in determining the best evacuation route, and the proper response procedures in an emergency. A special feature of this course is that it includes both our Fire and HAZWOPER Awareness training in one course.

Workplace Violence

Recognizing violent behavior, reporting threats, and braving a confrontation are just some of the issues covered in this program. "Click and Learn More" activities, many with audio and video examples of inappropriate behavior, show learners what to look for in a potentially violent situation and how to respond in a way that saves lives. In one exercise students hear people exhibiting verbal warning signs of violent behavior. Another presents the dos and don'ts of dealing with threatening situations and applauds students when they respond correctly. In our "Real World Scenario" interactive video segment, learners become a potential victim of a threatening situation. The challenge is to determine the best action to take to avoid harm.
